This calculator roughly estimates the pressure drop of fire dampers along air duct, under general circumstances, including that all damper blades are fully open. The losses through fire dampers shall best be referred to the manufacturer’s guide, hence this calculation may only be acted as a general rule-of-thumb reference. In this context, the following formula is being applied:

% Free Area is the percentage of cross-sectional area of the Fire Damper that allows air to pass freely. When fully open, it can be assumed that the % Free Area of the Fire Damper is approx. ≥60%.
